Susan Phariss is a neurodevelopmental specialist, author, speaker and founder of Brain Fitness Strategies LLC. She is one of the nation’s leading experts on the topic of teaching neurodevelopmental movement as a tool for reducing learning disabilities and behavioral challenges in the classroom. She has been seen on NBC, CBS, and ABC and co-authored Have a Ball Learning: How Juggling Helps Kids Overcome Their Learning Disabilities.

Susan began her education in brain health after her father crushed his skull, leaving him with severe—but mostly recoverable—brain damage. Fascinated by the brain, she continued her education when she founded a nonprofit that provided people with physical disabilities with trained assistance dogs. She then studied operant conditioning (behavioral analysis) under the legendary B. F. Skinner’s protégé, Marian Breland Bailey.

Susan is one of fourteen certified Rhythmic Movement Training consultants in the North and South America, having studied under RMT’s founders: psychiatrist Dr. Harald Blomberg and kinesiologist Moira Dempsey. By evaluating movement and learning challenges of clients, she is able to identify primitive reflexes that have been retained since childhood—or acquired through trauma--that inhibit normal brain development and function. Susan’s passion is working with kids with Cerebral Palsy, and she loves working with people with other neurodevelopmental disabilities as well. With a degree is in mechanical engineering as her foundation, she is also trained in operant conditioning, behavioral analysis, Emotional Freedom Technique, Laughter Yoga, Brain Gym, Bal-A-Vis-X, and other techniques that enhance brain fitness.

In her speaking presentations, Susan shares some of the newest information on simple ways to increase brain fitness, overcoming learning disabilities, and the results of major studies on the brain and juggling. She describes how parents, teachers, friends, and family members can change the lives of kids struggling with learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD by teaching them the coordination and concentration required in juggling. Susan helps parents and teachers understand the power of physical exercise in optimizing brain health and reveals the steps that allow them to achieve it quickly and effectively.
