Christopher "Chris" Powell (born March 2, 1980) is an American personal trainer, reality show personality, talk show host, and author. Powell is best known for his appearances on the ABC television series Extreme Weight Loss, formerly known as Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.Powell was born on March 2, 1980 in Arizona. At age 14 he was the smallest kid in school.[citation needed] He took up weightlifting after encouragement from his parents. He attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and received a degree in Exercise Science, with concentrations in biomechanics and physiology. He has a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.[citation needed]

Powell is the host and a personal trainer on Extreme Weight Loss, a U.S. reality television series. He has been on the show since 2011. Powell has also appeared in Extreme Weight Loss DVDs and is the author of two books: Choose to Lose: The 7-Day Carb Cycle Solution and Chris Powell's Choose More Lose More for Life. He has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, The View, and in a one-hour documentary that aired on TLC.

In 2008 Powell helped David Smith lose 400 pounds and together they co-founded the web-based weight-loss program ReshapeTheNation.com. Powell also contributes to Good Morning Arizona, Good Morning America, and has a series of webisodes called "Meet the Powell Pack."Chris Powell is the trainer and transformation specialist on ABC’s highly rated documentary style series “Extreme Weight Loss.” With an unyielding dedication to helping others, Chris travels the country using his innovative techniques, education and expertise to guide extremely overweight individuals as they shed hundreds of pounds over the course of a year. He is currently filming Season 4.

Adding author to his list of accolades, Chris has written two books that have soared to the top of the New York Times Best Seller list. His first book Choose to Lose, was released by Hyperion in December 2011 and provides motivation, nutrition, exercise, tips, and tricks to help anyone lose those last twenty pounds. His second book, Choose More Lose More, For Life, hit stands last May and focuses on choices. The book offers readers four different carb cycles, and twenty new workouts called Nine-Minute Missions that pack maximum results into minimum time.

Chris holds a degree in Exercise Science, with concentrations in biomechanics and physiology and the training accreditation: The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Chris exploded onto the fitness scene with his unorthodox approach, becoming a pioneer for a new hybrid of fitness professionals.

Chris Powell Fast Facts: Earned his private pilot's license at 17, and later got his commercial license and worked as a flight instructor. After an investment in a nutrition system didn't pan out in 2008, he found himself thousands of dollars in debt and forced to live out of his car. Over a 26-month period, he helped a man lose more than 400 pounds. A Mesa, Arizona, gang member carjacked his SUV, which was carrying his son Cash and the family nanny in September 2012. Both escaped unharmed.
