Life Fitness Biography

As the CEO and face of SHF, my life revolves around health and fitness as well as the daily tasks of running a business and generating new ideas to grow the business. When I am not filming routines or editing videos I enjoy going out to the movies and traveling with my girlfriend Erica, driving my beast of a Camaro I call Jane, pwning noobs (especially my younger brothers) on Super Smash Bros., Call Of Duty and God Of War as well as watching all kinds of ANIME. I love what I do and I have worked extremely hard my entire life so I would never have a “job”. I have been lucky enough to be blessed with an amazing family and a handful of super close friends and my ultimate goal is to continue to be successful and inspire others to be the best they can be.
All the men in my family are “Jacks-Of-All-Trades”. Growing up my Dad made sure my brothers and I knew how to do a bit of everything. I knew that to being a Herman meant I needed to be a hard worker and if I were to do any job I was expected to do it right the first time. This mentality helped shape and mold me into a young entrepreneur. I began mowing lawns in my neighborhood when I was twelve for spending money. By the time I was fourteen I was working in a maintenance position at a local Gold’s Gym. My duties were to ensure that all the equipment was cleaned each week. The owner took a quick liking to my hard work and enthusiastic attitude. I taught myself how to repair broken down equipment and by the time I was fifteen I was running the front desk, making protein shakes, and signing up new members.

The gym was always priority number one, but I had a few side projects. When I was sixteen my best friend Joe and I started our own DJ business called Galaxy DJ’s and we earning close to $1500 a month. We even DJed our own sophomore and junior proms. When it was time to go to college I had transitioned from my position as maintenance manager to a personal trainer. I was still DJing on the side and even found the time to get my real estate license. At this age I began to start fitness modeling as well and was featured several times in Men’s Health Magazine. However, as my college graduation neared I had condensed all my interests and side professions to only a few things; running a high end gym, fitness modeling and a dream to revolutionize the Fitness industry.

The dream of ScottHermanFitness, LLC was born in 2007. My idea was to teach fitness to the world in a way that was easy to understand and FREE. But there was one problem; the world had no idea who I was. Then, as fate would have it a few short months later I found myself on my way to Brooklyn, NY to film the 21st season of The Real World as one of the 8 cast members. This was the opportunity I needed to finally figure out the equation of how I could do what I love but on a much larger platform. The rest is history. My journey into fitness began when I was twelve. I was a quiet as a kid and constantly picked on by my older brother and his friends. I found comfort in the solitude of my basement surrounded by nothing but my music and my Dad’s old weight set. When I was fourteen one of my friends on the wrestling team asked me if I wanted to work with him at a local gym on the weekend for a free membership. Having started to outgrow my basement gym, I quickly jumped at the opportunity to earn a free membership.

I'm going to tell you about my life and why I am where I am today.  As you know, life isn't an easy journey, and I haven't always made choices that made it any easier.  I've been poor, I've been in terrible relationships and  I had a son at 16, and two children by the time I was eighteen years old.  I have definitely had times of struggle.

I decided early on that I wasn't going to let bad decisions or bad situations determine my future.  I knew that I wanted to be a role model for my children and someone they could be proud of.    At 18 I was working, going to college full time and spending every possible minute with my children.  They made me want to be a better person.  They made me want to succeed.

My plan was to take a few business classes.  A few business classes led to an Associate's Degree in business, which led to earning all the units I needed to transfer.  I later received by Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.  At that time I started working as a Social Worker.  I worked with Teen Parents and their siblings, Homeless Foster Youth, and Foster Youth living in group homes.  I later left Social Work to enter a career in Real Estate and Lending.  At that time I didn't realize how much my clients I  had worked with would impact my future decisions.

I enjoyed several years of success in real estate and construction until our lives were turned upside down with the crash of the real estate market.  At the time I didn't know that this would be such a learning experience.  I realized that I had done a great job teaching my children that the toys we had were all material things and that they don't bring happiness.  I always explained that in our business we could have everything one day, and nothing the next.  I had no idea how true this statement would be, that we would lose everything.  My children never complained, they just appreciated that we still had each other and that was what truly mattered.

Excited I had my education to fall back on, I started working in Sales and returned to school to complete my Master's Degree.  I originally received my MA in Public Administration and Human Resources.  Having my MA allowed me the opportunity to work as a College Instructor at a Vocational College.  Again, I had no idea that this would be life changing.  I teach a class in Professional Development.  I also teach Public Speaking and Psychology in a Criminology progam.  I should mention, my interest in Psychology stems from Mental Illness that has devastated the lives of many in my family.

While teaching I started receiving letters and surveys from my students.  I also received a letter from a previous client that I had worked with when she was pregnant as a teenager.  The letters said that I have changed their lives, gave them hope and motivated them to chase their dreams.  Multiple students have stated that they look forward to my class, that I was the best instructor that they have ever had and that I have a true understanding of life, challenges and the ability to overcome obstacles.  Hearing this has changed my life!

At one time in my life I wanted to be a counselor, but the problem was, I didn't want to focus on the past.  I wanted to help people develop their goals, chase their dreams and be more than they ever thought possible.  My teaching style isn't typical, it is more motivational and inspiring.  I challenge students to do better than they thought they could.  I also get the chance to put a face to Mental Illness, a terrible disease.

My students inspired me.   I started stepping up my personal fitness goals and studying to be a Life, Fitness and Wellness Coach.  I returned to college, studying for my Master's Degree in Performance Psychology. My goals changed because of my students!  I want to do more.  I want to see others reach their goals.  I want to be there to cheer others on as they accomplish their career goals, life goals, fitness goals.  I want to motivate you to do all that you can do. It takes balance, it takes a plan, it takes a dream...from there, it can take you anywhere!
